PIZZA!!  Who doesn't love it?  It's almost as American as baseball, and I know I've done pizza before and Imo's is still the best.  But there is another shop I like to go to if I get the chance, where the slices are as big as your head, literally, and they are fantastic.  If you have ever been to a mall in your life then you have seen a Sbarro's pizza establishment, if you've never stopped....shame on you.  They have something for everyone, vegetarian, meat lovers, pasta people, salad people, and even sandwich people.  I always get a slice of the supreme pizza cause I like veggies and meat and maybe a fresh fruit cup.  The prices are slightly high, but for the portion you get it is worth it and the taste is great!  So what are we waiting for....Let's go to the mall today.....and Get Your Grub On!!

Red Lobster

Personally I'm not a lobster or crab fan, but when it comes to shrimp, I'm hooked!  By far and away Red Lobster has some of THE best shrimp choices ever.  My absolute favorite is the shrimp linguine (used to be known as shrimp pasta in case you haven't been there in a while), usually when we go, my hubby and I get two different things and just eat off each others plates.  He normally gets the shrimp side trio, comes with fried shrimp, shrimp scampi, and shrimp linguine.  I just get the linguine, and the reason for that is...no matter what we get the kids, they eat the pasta straight off our plates!  But order a full size of the pasta and the trio and you can feed 4-5 people off it.  Now the cheddar bay biscuits are to die for, always hot, soft, buttery and just so good.  I always take some home with me....if they make it that far.  One of the other things my whole family loves eating there is the clam chowder...I never order it anywhere else....when you can get all of your kids to eat clams and potatoes, I mean it's just that good.  So for the "poor mans seafood restaurant" I definitely recommend Red Lobster.  So go GET YOUR GRUB ON!!

Iron Barley

Going back to Man VS Food, we again followed Adam Richman to a local eating establishment called The Iron Barley.  It features an array of food for such a small place, and I do mean small, but it is well worth the wait.  My husband and I had to try what we saw on TV and that was something called the monte cristo dog, it is a grilled hot dog with melted cheese and jelly, (yep jelly), it was awesome. I got an order of the chicken pasta and it left me wishing I had four stomachs to put it in.  The pasta is the wagon wheel, big chucks of chicken, and the cheesiest and creamiest sauce ever.  I have never seen this place before until travel channel stopped by and I'm glad they did, this is truly a diamond in the rough.  Located at 5510 Virginia Ave, St. Louis Mo, 63111   Hours Mon-Thu 11am-10pm  Fri-Sat 11am-11pm  Phone 314-351-4500 
If I'm not mistaken I believe they do have live music on certain days.  Anyway this has to be one of the most

Pappy's Smoke House

Looking for great bar-b-que, then look no further than Pappy's Smoke House.  My husband and I love to watch Man vs. Food on the travel channel, so when Adam Richman came to St. Louis we made sure to pay attention to where he went.  This is no ordinary bar-b-que place, there's picnic tables inside, everyone sits with everyone, rolls of paper towels at the table, and even Pappy himself comes to see how your doing and will spend a good 15-20min just talking to ya.  Of course when we went we had to get The Adam Bomb, you can feed at least 6 people with this, a full slab of ribs, a beef brisket and  a pork sandwich, 1/4 chicken, 4 sides, and a hot link frito pie, all this costs $42.99, which really isn't bad if you are feeding 6 people.  I sat down with all this food and was just in awe of how much there was.  But everything was soo good, tender, juicy, and just finger licking.  I am so glad we went here, there is a down side to Pappy's, they only make a certain amount of meat, once it's gone the doors close so get there early.  They are located at 3106 Olive St.  St. Louis, Mo. 63103 and you can get a carry out but you need to call 314-535-4340.  They have their menu on their web site at Pappyssmokehouse.com.  Don't just sit there GET YOUR GRUB ON!!

Waffle House

What's better to eat for breakfast than waffles, pancakes, or eggs!!  Nothing, unless your eating it at Waffle House.  Everything is cooked in a pound of butter, that's all you taste, I ordered pancakes, eggs, and bacon.  I watched them cook it on the grill, and the amount of butter that they use should be illegal.  It was served to me swimming in butter, literally, I had to throw my eggs a bagel lifesaver. So I will not be going back there, not even on a drunken night.
I think any drunken nights I have will be spent with the good old belly bombers from white castle.

Texas Roadhouse

Yeehaw...Everything is peanutty in Texas.  My first visit to the steakhouse was not what I expected.  When you first walk in it looks like a butcher shop, literally, there is a case with all the different cuts of beef on display and an old time barrel full of peanuts!  You read right, peanuts, and they encourage you to just throw the shells on the floor, honestly I'm surprised I didn't slip and fall on them.  Every table has a little aluminum bucket full of peanuts for you to munch on while you wait for your food.  The prices aren't bad...you can get a 6oz sirloin for between 8-10 dollars along with two sides ( I recommend the baked sweet potato, yum) and they bring out big, soft, fluffy rolls with some kind of whipped butter ( I think there is cinnamon in it).  I had an 8oz Kansas City strip with broccoli and baked sweet potato and added a side of shrimp skewers, and for appetizer I had a baby bloom ( their version of a blooming onion).  While I waited for my dinner, I was treated to a little entertainment, apparently line dancing is a requirement, the music started and every waiter and waitress busted into dance for a good 4-5 minutes (and boy did they looked thrilled...Not), but was fun to watch any way.  The food came out minutes later and looked fabulous, I was a little disappointed in the broccoli, but the sweet potato was delicious, the steak was tender, juicy, and almost perfect, it was a little salty on one side so I flipped it over in the juice and it was better.  The baby bloom was good, just like Outback, but smaller.  There was no wait time ( I went on Sunday about 4pm), prompt and courteous service, good food and entertainment.  All in all it was one of the best steaks I've ever had and highly recommend eating here. So don't just sit there go and GET YOUR GRUB ON!!

Best pizza

Okay without question the best pizza in St. Louis is Imos. They have the best sausage pizza, and if you add bacon to it, it's even better (all things are better with bacon).  They also have really good salads, the chef salad is great, the only thing I have issues with is that they put the dressing cup inside the salad, I always ask them to put it in the bag because I don't like to think how many people have touched that cup and now it's in my salad. So for me Imos is the bestest and greatest pizza ever.  And if you don't think so then your just not a true St. Louisan. I love thin crust pizza and no one serves it up better and with the awsome deals they have right now with the two topping medium pizza for $7.99, you can't afford not to try it.

MMMM....Pretzels

Continuing on my "mall themed food", who doesn's like pretzels?  There are two pretzel competitors in South County Mall, Aunt Anne's, and Pretzel Time.  I have eaten at both places and always find myself going back to the same one.  Before I reveal my pick, lets review...first up Pretzel Time.  Similar in looks to its competitor and a very short line, I picked up a pretzel dog and lemonade for close to $5 bucks.  I get my grub and walk on, my first bite of the pretzel dog would be my last, I know no one knows for sure what hot dogs are made of, but this wasn't even made on this planet, I can only describe it as the most disgusting hot dog I've ever eaten (and yes I have had the Circus Circus hot dog in Vegas).  Even the lemonade had a weird after taste.  The pretzel surrounding the dog didn't have much of a flavor, but was a little on the doughy side, so I don't think it was cooked long enough.  So lets move on to Aunt Anne's, more variety, always busy (hot dogs that taste as they should), and great lemonade.  My favorite is the cinnamon sugar, but a plain with a side of cheese is good too.  They always look and taste great, but get there early because there is always a line.  So lets recap Pretzel Time gets the "Nasty" award and the "Best Pretzel in South County Mall" goes to Aunt Anne's Pretzels.  Good work ladies.

Manchu Wok

The third oriental cuisine is a place called Manchu Wok in South County Mall.  As I sat and watched people order from the counter (while I ate another dish from another restaurant) I noticed it was more active than the other two restaurants of its kind.  A gentleman and his friend were standing in line and I heard him exclaim "I always come here, the orange chicken is the best."  So I pitched what was left of my meal and just examined the little shop.  First I noticed that it was very very clean, the woman behind the counter was moving nonstop, cleaning this and that.  Next  a gentleman named Tom came out (the owner or manager) and was just super friendly to all that came up to his counter.  I got up and tried a sample of the orange chicken the sample person was handing out.  I have to admit it was pretty good.  As I was standing there another young girl walked up and said that they have the best orange chicken and she always gets it from here.  Okay normally I get the special, but my stomach didn't think it had room for anymore.  So being the nice guy Tom is, he gave me a sample plate to take home, I asked to try a different chicken other than the orange, he obliged and sent me on my way with hot braised chicken, fried rice, and vegetables.  Later that day I got out my plate and started with the rice (which has peas and carrots in it), it was the best of all three places, next the vegetables (carrots, baby corn, cabbage, celery, broccoli, zucchini) tossed in a light sauce, they were so fresh and well prepared, now comes the chicken...it was not spicy, but that's okay not alot of places make it very spicy anyway, but it was good.  Manchu has a manager's special for $4.99, as well as a kids meal for $4.99.  So if your going oriental at South County Mall, then I am going to recommend Manchu Wok hands down.  They earn the rating "Best Oriental Cuisine in South County Mall".  Thanks Tom!!

Asian World

The second place I had eaten at was Asian world in South County Mall.  The sample of the day was Thai chicken.  I placed it in my mouth and started to chew and chew and chew, there was more grissel than chicken.  Again for the people I ordered the special, Thai chicken with fried rice and a crab rangoon...all for only $4.99.  The flavor of the sauce was okay (again more grissel than chicken), the rice was tasteless and mushy, and if you've ever eaten a good crab rangoon (you know what they taste like) this wasn't one of them, there was hardly any filling and it was super sweet.  The restaurant space that they had was messy and unkempt, and the poor food looked like it had sat under a warmer all day, even though I got there an hour after they opened.  Still it was slightly better than Sarku Japan across the way.

Sarku Japan

I suppose I should mention the good, the bad and the nasty along with the best in "mall".  First up Sarku Japan, this is one of three oriental cuisines in South County Mall.  They all have someone handing out samples (mostly chicken), and the first thing I notice is that it leaves a kind of film in your mouth.  But I am brave and order the special.  Teriyaki chicken over steamed rice and vegetables.  When I opened the container the food was swimming in their special sauce, the rice was so sticky it was like eating a glue ball, and the vegetables were soggy and looked like they had gone through a drought.  Afterward it was like I had eaten a pound of grease, I had enough film in my mouth to deep fry a chicken.  So all in all even though the prices weren't bad, I would have to give Sarku the "Nasty" award.

Mall Food

Hi! I'm creating this new blog to review regular places people like to eat.  I don't know about you but I'm tired of reading blogs about fancy, highpriced can't get into without a suit and tie kind of places.  This is for the regular people that I see everyday, the ones who want good food without dipping into their savings to eat it.  This month I am focusing on mall food.  Why you ask.  Well it seems alot of people eat when they shop.  I was doing some people watching the other day and got some grub and said, "Hey I bet these people would like to know where to get the best food in here, or other places they shop."  So St. Louis Grub was born.
